Find the stories
Research people, places, events and everyday life in Alness and discover the history behind familiar parts of the town.
We want young people to help shape how the story of Alness is told. Young Curators will have the chance to explore local history, work with museum ideas and help create something new for the town.
Young Curators will be encouraged to ask questions, investigate stories, work with photographs and objects, develop ideas and help decide how parts of Alness's history could be shared with other people.
Research people, places, events and everyday life in Alness and discover the history behind familiar parts of the town.
Help create displays, digital stories, videos, labels, social content and other ways of sharing what you discover.
Look at photographs, documents, objects and memories and think about what they tell us about Alness.
Have a say in how Discover Alness develops and what a museum for the town could look and feel like.
Young Curators won't simply be given activities to complete. The aim is for the group to contribute ideas that can genuinely influence Discover Alness.
That could mean suggesting a subject for an exhibition, helping choose photographs, finding a new way to tell a story or spotting something adults have overlooked.
You don't need to already know lots about history. Curiosity, ideas and an interest in Alness are enough to get started.
The programme will grow with Discover Alness. Activities will depend on the projects, collections and opportunities available at the time.
Research an event, place, person or part of everyday life in Alness and help turn it into a story other people can explore.
Look closely at historical photographs and records, identify clues and help work out what they can tell us.
Help choose a theme, select material and write the words that could become a small physical or digital exhibition.
Learn how memories can be recorded and preserved and, with proper consent and supervision, help capture stories from local people.
Help shape stories, posts and features for the Discover Alness online archive.
Share ideas about exhibitions, activities and how a future physical museum in Alness could work for younger visitors.
Discover Alness is developing the Young Curators programme carefully. Appropriate safeguarding, consent, supervision and risk-management arrangements will be in place before activities involving young people begin.
Parents and carers will be given clear information about activities, communication, photography and any visits or events where their consent is required.
Discover Alness has a formal Young Curators Programme Policy and Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy governing this work.
If you're interested in taking part, or you're a parent or carer asking on behalf of a young person, send us a message. We're currently gathering interest while the programme is being developed.
